Developmental Benefits of Babywearing

Acknowledged as hip-healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI).

According to the IHDI, the risk of hip dysplasia or dislocation is greatest in the first few months of life. By six months of age, most babies have nearly doubled in size, the hips are more developed and the ligaments are stronger, so are less susceptible to developing hip dysplasia. The IHDI acknowledges babywearing devices as recognized products that encourage healthy hip development, if well fitted in the natural sitting position. IHDI acknowledges a carrier to be “Hip-Healthy” when it support the M-position when worn as instructed for infants younger than six months of age. This is generally achieved by carriers that support the full thigh with the infant in the inward facing position during the first six months of life.

Support knee to knee, and the whole length of the body.

Our carriers are designed to support the natural C-shape curvature, and grow with your baby for each step of the spine development: from newborn to independent sitting - C shape; from independent sitting to walking - J shape; and from walking and on - S shape. The baby’s knees are slightly higher than the buttocks in this carrier (M-position) and the legs are spread from the hips which also produces a clinging reflex. This position is ideal for the development of the spine and hips of your baby.

Support baby across the top rail, not the bottom, which is better for you both.

Most modern carriers are designed with ‘bottom rail’ support, where the baby is supported at the bottom of the seat, and their weight is then placed on the wearers hips and back – which is why you see carriers with large waist bands. Our carriers has been designed, like original wraps, with ‘top rail’ support, which keeps baby upright in the hammock, and distributes their weight across the wearers shoulders. The wide shoulder straps disperse the baby’s weight evenly without pressure points.

Enabling baby to see, hear, feel and smell you.

Research shows that babywearing can lead to a stronger bond between a parent and child. By positioning your baby in an upright position, supported across the top rail, they are very close to you - they can see, hear, feel and smell you, which is critical for bonding and feeling safe. The hammocks have also been designed to enable skin to skin care, which helps with the closeness, promotes on demand breastfeeding, and the physical contact can also improve your breast milk supply!

Bringing baby along with you helps develop their skills.

With our lightweight, comfortable carriers, you are not restricted on where you take your baby, and for how long you wear them. Research shows that babies that are carried and are exposed to more environmental and social stimuli engages baby and helps them store experiences in their brain that they will connect to later in life.

Enabling skin to skin contact helps reduce post partum depression (PPD).

PPD, or baby blues, is more common than you would think. Because of their discreet design, our carries offer the ability of skin to skin care, which has been proven in research to reduce post partum depression symptoms in the first 3 months post birth. Because skin to skin care helps initiate and improve breastfeeding, creates a closeness and a strong bond between you and your baby – the longer you can do it, the more relaxed, more confident and in control you feel.

Comfort and durability:

All Babymoon carriers can be worn from birth up to a maximum of 15kgs, which gives you lots of babymoon time to enjoy together! The patented design ensures that the wearers centre of gravity stays the same. Most modern carriers are designed with ‘bottom rail’ support, where the baby is supported at the bottom of the seat, and their weight is then placed on the wearers hips and back – which is why you see carriers with large waist bands. Babymoon has been designed, like original wraps, with ‘top rail’ support, which keeps baby upright in the hammock, and distributes their weight across the wearers shoulders. The broad shoulder straps and diagonal twill fabrics disperses the baby’s weight evenly, so it is comfortable across the shoulders or back. Easy. To maintain a firm position, we intentionally do not use stretchy fabrics that allow the baby to sit low (sag) in the seat, as this does not fully support baby’s spine, and, it moves the wearers centre of gravity and creates pressure points.

Versatility:

Babymoon carriers offer up to 3 positions, dependant on baby’s weight and your confidence levels. We have taken inspiration from Asian carriers, and have developed Babymoon to be lightweight and compact, so there is minimal additional weight when you are carrying, and when you are not using it, simply pack it away neatly into your changing bag. Their efficient design makes the Babymoon idea for tandem carrying, for sitting, standing, and even lying down - perfect for those babies that just want to be held. No fuss.

Ease of use:

Traditional wraps take a lot of getting used to, and it’s normal to take up to 6 or more attempts to successfully position the baby. Because the benefits are so good, people are willing to keep trying to master this skill! Babymoon carriers provides all the benefits, but with a fraction of time to master. Baby wearing consultants can help you get the ideal positioning from day one, or the Babymoon app will guide you step by step. Once you have the carrier on, multiple click and go buckles enable fast and precise adjustment so you always have the best fit, with every wear. Simple.
